For 75 years, Schober has been constantly developing, refining and optimizing punching technology in the printing, packaging, hygiene and pharma industries. Rotary punching technology is used when the particles to be removed are too small for a cutting process or cause difficulties in removal. Rotary punching solutions are used in laboratory operations and industrial production - either as a stand-alone offline solution or inline in processing systems. The classic workflow (unwind, punch, cut & rewind) can be maintained even with a wide variety of materials. Burr-free with material widths of up to 2000 mm and speeds of up to 800 m/min. Waste can be safely removed by the anvil cylinder even with extremely narrow punching patterns (with hole diameters of 0.5 mm).

High-performance punching modules are used, for example, to create pouring openings or drinking straw holes in liquid packaging. This punching can be carried out inline in the printing machine or in the extruder. Schobertechnologies manufactures modules with working widths of up to 1800 mm, designed for mechanical speeds of up to 800 m/min.

Clean and precise corner punching
With Schober’s corner punching technologies, labels, packaging and specialty products can be processed cleanly and precisely. Our rotary systems enable consistent corner rounding across a wide range of materials – reliable even at high production volumes.
Corner roundings are used to protect and embellish the products. As products are usually processed into multiple uses, the corner roundings are located between contiguous products. In most cases, the corner roundings are so small that the resulting waste cannot be safely cut or removed. For this reason, corner roundings are punched and safely removed via the counter punch cylinder.

Efficient combination of punching technologies
With Schober’s combi punching systems, different processes can be combined in a single, flexible production step. The result: higher efficiency, short setup times and precise results – ideal for labels, packaging and specialty products.
Combined punching modules are used when tight tolerances between length cutting and shape punching / corner rounding are required (e.g. in the production of tea labels and tea bags). The positioning of the module or tools is achieved by precise cross adjustment.
When setting up the machine, the cutting blade set can be removed with a single movement. The complete blade set is positioned precisely and securely using an eccentric lever. The slitting station can also be integrated into existing machines, such as label printing machines or similar.

Micro punching for functionality & design
Precise micro perforations for packaging and specialty products
Schobertechnologies enables precise micro perforations that meet both functional (e.g. for breathable packaging) and visual requirements. Our rotary systems ensure consistent quality, high speed and maximum process reliability.
Micro-perforations are used, for example, to produce tear-off perforations in stamp booklets. The holes have a diameter of 0.5 mm with a distance of 1.5 mm. A safe waste removal is guaranteed by the use of a hollow die cylinder, with working widths of up to 500 mm. These units can be installed in continuous form printing machines. The drive connection is either mechanical or electronic. Changes to the punching pattern or the addition of safety perforations can be made by simply and safely replacing the punch and die bars.
Micro punching can be used for surface perforations for tea sticks as well. This new type of packaging for tea consists of a laminate (aluminum, PE and PET) with a very narrow punching pattern (holes in a row with a diameter of 0.5 mm). Schobertechnologies supplies punching modules or the complete film punching machine with print mark control for up to 4 patterns across to the running direction.

With Schober’s needling technology, precise micro perforations are created that are ideally suited for packaging, films and technical products. The process ensures consistent results, long tool life and high efficiency in production.
Films, foils, foams, papers and laminates are often used as perforated packaging material. Such micro perforations are produced by needles or micro perforating cylinders. Depending on the type of material, this can be done using a cold or heated process, with a perforation density of up to 100 holes per cm². In addition to the needling of packaging materials, there are other areas of application such as hygiene articles, filters and artificial leather for the automotive and furniture industries.
Transport holes for reliable further processing
Our transport perforation technologies guarantee reliable and precise processing in conveyor and further processing systems. They ensure process reliability, consistent results, and high efficiency—especially in label and packaging production.
Transport perforations are used to precisely guide materials in the finishing processes. These can be produced in register to a printed web or in a constant pitch for unprinted materials. For reasons of economy, round transport perforations are recommended, although rectangular, oval or special shapes can also be used in individual cases.

Questions & Answers
You can perform a simple test with a commercially available hole punch. If the material can be punched, the chances are good. For further tests, you are welcome to send us material samples in consultation, which we can punch for you on our premises. For further tests, we have a test facility at our disposal.
Paper and cardboard from approx. 30 to approx. 600 gr/m2, films and foils from approx. 20 µm to 500 µm, thin metals from approx. 20 µm to 150 µm, depending on the stability and release properties of the material.
Depending on the product image, the structure of the punching tools is defined. For narrow hole spacing, we use special punch holders with plate hole discs. For wider hole spacing, we use interchangeable punches and dies.
If the tool design permits and it is economical, punches and die segments can be manufactured that allow regrinding. If not, at least ideally the punches and dies can be exchanged. This is particularly useful for standard stock items. With the tight hole spacing, the tool may need to be replaced if it is worn.
In principle, this is possible, although in such a case we can only guarantee the professional manufacture of the tool, but not its function.
If it is a repeat order for a Schober unit, this is possible. For third-party products, we can only guarantee the professional manufacture of the punches and bushings, but not the function.
In principle, almost all shapes (round, rectangular, oblong, freeform) from 0.5 to 30 mm can be punched, although a punching test is recommended in advance and minimal radii in the corners are necessary.
The punching waste is pressed by the punch into the die tool. From there, it can be extracted. Depending on the requirements, Schobertechnologies can supply the appropriate extraction system or the customer can realize this on site with a local system builder.
Schobertechnologies can provide the punching unit with a drive gear or provide a shaft journal to which the customer attaches a coupling with drive motor. Schobertechnologies also supplies drive units for integration into customer equipment.
Our punching units are modular, and in most cases they are adapted to the customer's requirements.
If space allows, this is possible in most cases.
The service life depends on the material to be punched. Depending on the run size and punching geometry, Schobertechnologies offers different materials for punches and dies. From SuCR, HSS, Longlife to carbide, if possible.

Punching units from Schobertechnologies are particularly suitable for the production of profiles and special punchings. They consist of a stable, high-precision cast iron frame and have high-precision bearings. Perfect punching with paired materials (carbide, Longlife, HSS or Super CR) guarantee long operating times under maximum stress for working widths of up to 1,800 mm and working speeds of up to 800 m/min. Integration into existing production systems is also possible without any problems.
